Riverway Post-16

Riverway gives opportunities to Post-16 students to access education away from a conventional college environment. Students will join a small group where they will receive a high level of staff support. They will work towards English and Maths qualifications (Functional Skills or GCSEs), Skills for Further Learning and Education (RQF) at Levels 1 and 2, as well as employability and life skills. They will also complete Work-Based Health & Safety qualifications, with support provided to help them achieve these.

Further Education

Riverway offers Post-16 students an alternative to traditional college, providing small-group learning with personalised support.

Supporting the Next Steps

Students learn skills, gain qualifications, and receive guided work experience to prepare for college, training, or employment.

Working Life

The focus of the programme is to not only provide quality education and the opportunity to build on qualifications already achieved, but try and bridge the gap for these students to successfully move on to the next step in their learning or working life. This may be to access a further education provision, college or look to support them in finding work with training.

All students will be given the opportunity to undertake work experience throughout the year, supported by key staff who will mentor the student during this time. The support staff will also work closely with the employer to ensure the needs of the individual are managed and given careful consideration to, whilst in placement.

Work Based Health & Safety

Health and Safety in the Workplace is vitally important regardless of the industry a person may choose. In order to support our students to develop these skills, they will undertake a programme of work based health and safety training. Giving them the opportunity to not only learn the theory but also explore how health and safety awareness works in practice.

  • Health & Safety
  • Food Hygiene (Level 2)
  • Manual Handling

Work Experience

All students will undertake at least one work experience placement. Work experience will be tailored to the individual student needs and will be supported by Post-16 staff.

We have many businesses on the Isle of Wight who are happy to support our students.

Students will be involved in exploring work placements, undertaking interviews and understanding the process for employment.

Learning While Working
