Our Curriculum

Our adapted curriculum fosters positive associations with education and supports individuals with specific educational needs to access a broad curriculum tailored to their needs. These sessions embed individualised academic and social learning objectives in a manner that motivates and inspires young people.

  • The daily routines for our young people are based on a planned and structured approach.
  • The timings of the day are flexible when necessary to accommodate specific needs, engagement, and re-regulation strategies.
  • Movement breaks are used throughout the day and are aligned with our PE curriculum, ensuring that time spent outdoors is structured and relevant to the young person’s educational plan.

All learning is built on a well-planned core subject timetable aligned with the National Curriculum and led by qualified teachers.

Due to the sometimes short-term nature or part-time attendance at our provision, we ensure that all of our young people are focused primarily on literacy, numeracy and also PSHE and SMSC, which is delivered via structured Outdoor Education lessons. Additional subjects are added once attainment, engagement and/or attendance allow. We utilise the DfE ‘Engagement Model’ to ensure that we are able to identify and track progress in the early stages of engagement.

Engagement Phase

If a young person is in the early stages of reengaging with education OR is working below Year 1 expectations, the DfE ‘Engagement Model’ offers a reliable framework for identifying and evidencing meaningful progress. The ‘Engagement Model’ evaluates engagement across five key areas of learning, rather than subject-specific attainment. It is a crucial stage of reengagement with education, as it sets key expectations while supporting the development of initial and foundational skills.

Daily Structure

The daily routines for our young people are based on a clear and structured approach, established with the young person at the start of the day, using a visual story ‘now and next’ format alongside well-defined ‘Learning Questions’ derived from the ‘I Can’ curriculum. The timings of the day are flexible when necessary to accommodate specific needs, engagement, and re-regulation strategies. Movement breaks are incorporated throughout the day and are aligned with the PE curriculum, ensuring that time spent outdoors is structured and relevant to the young person’s educational plan.
