Curriculum Intent

Our Modern Foreign Language (MFL) curriculum aims to cultivate practical communication skills, cultural awareness, and curiosity about the wider world. It lays a foundation for future language learning by enabling our young people to understand and use another language in a functional, meaningful, and enjoyable way.

The Five Key Learning Objectives are:

LO1: I Can Understand and Respond to Spoken Language

“I can listen carefully and show I understand simple words and phrases in the language I am learning”.

LO2: I Can Communicate Using Spoken Language

“I can use familiar words and phrases to speak clearly and participate in simple conversations”.

LO3: I Can Read and Understand Written Language

“I can read and recognise words and phrases in the language I am learning and understand what they mean”.

LO4: I Can Write Words, Phrases, and Sentences

“I can copy, write, and adapt words and sentences to share my ideas in another language”.
