Curriculum Intent
Science is a practical and exploratory subject that should build curiosity, independence, and real-world understanding. Our intent is to help young people make sense of the world around them through hands-on investigations, observations, and meaningful learning experiences rooted in their everyday lives.

Igniting Curiosity
We encourage students to experiment, ask questions, and see themselves as capable, independent thinkers who can explore and understand the world around them.
The Five Key Learning Objectives are:
LO1: I Can Work Scientifically and Investigate the World Around Me
“I can ask questions, plan and carry out investigations, observe carefully, and use what I find out to explain and understand the world around me”.
LO2: I Can Understand Living Things and How They Change
“I can explore how animals and plants grow, survive, reproduce, and adapt, and understand how living things are connected in the natural world”.
LO3: I Can Understand Materials and Their Properties
“I can identify and compare materials, describe their properties, and explore how they can change, be used, and combined in different ways”.
LO4: I Can Understand Forces, Electricity, Sound, and Light
“I can explore how things move, how energy travels, and how forces, sound, light, and electricity work in the world around me”.
LO5: I Can Understand the Earth, Space, and Environmental Change
“I can describe the planet we live on, how it moves in space, how the environment changes, and what we can do to care for it”.
